Associate Teacher-Landry Early Childhood Center Details

Responsibilities

The Associate Teacher is required to assist Lead Teachers in the development and implementation of appropriate and creative curriculum. The Associate Teacher nurtures and supports young children, maintains a physically and emotionally safe environment, and uses positive child guidance techniques to facilitate development of children's conflict resolution skills. He/she will plan and put into practice developmentally appropriate curriculum considering differing abilities and learning styles. The Associate Teacher will promote positive interpersonal working relationships with both staff and families and participate in a constructive team approach to issues affecting the Center. The Associate Teacher will participate in annual professional development of self and staff, adhere to all licensing standards, as set forth by NAEYC and NHAEYC, and follow all guidelines as required by the LECC. The position reports to the LECC Director. 

  • Assist Lead Teachers in classroom management and curriculum planning, as designated
  • Assist Lead Teachers in supervision of student teachers and classroom volunteers
  • Assist Lead Teachers in room arrangement and environment design
  • Manage classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher
  • Participate in  evaluation of classroom activities and children's behavior
  • Participate in caring for the children's well-being and safety and develop relationships with them and parents
  • Create and teach lessons plans, as determined by the Lead Teacher, which stimulate the development of age appropriate cognitive and social skills, which include communication, emergent reading, writing, math, science, social studies, creative art, fine and gross motor development, implementing and teaching Pre-Kindergarten Standards through appropriate activities in the classroom
  • Maintain journals, portfolios, progress reports, curriculum and classroom assessments, as required
  • Participate in and help organize teacher/parent conferences or training's, as needed
  • Model attitudes, behaviors, and techniques which contribute to the overall harmonious operation of the program
Qualifications

  • Associate's degree required in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • One to two years of Early Childhood classroom teaching experience and/or after school program
  • Early Childhood Education Preschool certification
  • Knowledge of child development and early childhood education
  • Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office Suite and Smart Boards
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability and flexibility to lift small children, crouch, and sit on the floor for extended periods of time on a regular basis
  • Punctual, responsible and organized
  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment
  • Knowledge of NAEYC and NHAEYC accreditation requirements
